Mind the Gap

MIND THE GAP - TRINIDAD, is an intergenerational theatre program created by New York Theatre Workshop, connecting young people and elders through the power of storytelling. Our Trinidad Facilitator is Virginia Jimenez!

This free workshop matches Trinidadians age 60 and up with teens ages 14 to 19. Participants interview each other over the course of 12 sessions, learning about their intergenerational partner's lives and dreams. They write short plays inspired by their partner’s personal stories, and in a culminating evening of sharings, hear their scripts read aloud by local actors.

The process is a profound exercise in empathy and listening. It fosters understanding between generations, and prompts participants to ask big questions of both themselves and others: What makes us who we are? How do larger circumstances shape our lives? And, what are the common experiences that unite us all?

  • WHO: TEENS ages 14-19 and ELDERS ages 60+ (We have room for 12 participants: 6 Youth, 6 Elders.)

    • Session 5 - Tuesday, October 3rd - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 6 - Tuesday, October 10th - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 7 - Tuesday, October 17th - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 8 - Tuesday, October 24th - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 9 - Thursday, November 2nd - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 10 - Tuesday, November 7th - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    • Session 11 - Tuesday, November 14th, 5:30pm to 7:30pm - Final Play Readings @ Main Street LIVE

    • Session 12 - Tuesday, November 28th 5:30pm to 7:30pm - Wrap-Up Session

Applications are due on August 25th. Interviews will take place the following week.

  • All must fill out an application so that participants can be placed with a perfect partner and all can have a creative, powerful experience. 

  • No playwriting or theatre experience is necessary.
